This paper examines the central issue of what is real about society it concludes that social relations and the organisations they constitute do exist and discusses the conditions of their demonstration. Social realism holds to the view that the project of empirical research in the social sciences is to investigate social phenomena in order to discover underlying causal processes. Social Realism was an art movement brought on by the Industrial Revolution in Europe and the Great Depression in America. In this lesson, we discuss the definition of Social Realism, explore the Realism offers a social ontology that can combine social constructionism and an acceptance of the existence of the objects of measurement. The essential relevant realist proposition is that social outcomes are complex, which means that they are generated by a multiplicity of processes and their interaction effects.
